Midwest Regional Finals

The USTRC rolled into Mulvane, Kansas for the Midwest Regional Finals. The event took place May 29-June 1, 2014 at the Kansas Star Casino. Team ropers enjoyed the event and the state of the art facility.

The first roping of the weekend was the Open Division. It was the first qualifier on the road to The American. The team of Adam Rose from Willard, Missouri and Billie Jack Saebens from Nowata, Oklahoma teamed up to win first place in the American portion of the roping. They were 26.54 seconds on four steers and earned $4,626. Second place went to Lane Ivy from Llano, Texas and Dustin Davis from Texarkana, Arkansas, while third was Tyler Wade and Dustin Davis. Those three teams along with fourth through tenth received a qualification to The American semi-finals. Coleman Proctor from Pryor, Oklahoma and Jake Long were high team back in the Open Division and they won first place in the Average. They were 33.71 seconds on five steers and won $5,544, trophy Gist spurs and twenty points for the US Open Tour. Second place was Tyler Wade and Dustin Davis and third went to Coleman Proctor and Chase Tryan. Nick Becker from Garden City, Kansas and Dawson McMaster from Madison, Kansas won the Incentive Average. Overall Open Ropers at the Midwest Regional Finals roped for $24,924 in cash alone.

The team of Brett Stuart and T. Luttrell won the #15 Qualifier Round with a time of 13.26 seconds on two steers. They earned $1,012 plus trophy Gist knives. Second place was Rusty Shaw and EJ Thomas and third place went to Wyatt Muggli and Trevor Kirchenschlager. In the #15 Shoot Out the win went to the high team back. Trey Yates from Pueblo, Colorado and Casey Hicks from Sperry, Oklahoma were 30.00 second on four steers. They won $5,592, trophy Martin saddles and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Second place was Butchie Levell from Omaha, Nebraska and Chad Mathes from Lawson, Missouri. Third place in the Average was Tyler Milligan and Casey Hicks.

The team of C.J. Schicke and Shawn Trimble won the #13 Qualifier Rounds with a time of 16.14 seconds on two steers, while second place went to Butchie Levell and Mitch Barney. The champions of the #13 Shoot Out were Lynn Jarrell from Hulbert, Oklahoma and EJ Thomas from Keota, Oklahoma. They came from the third callback position to win $5,130, trophy Martin saddles and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Second place was Dustin Raupe from Douglass, Kansas and Scott LaClef from Leon, Kansas. Third place in the Average went to Ty and Clay Casper both from Balko, Oklahoma.

The second day of the Midwest Regional Finals began with the #12 Qualifier rounds. Bailey Jansen from Purcell, Oklahoma and Chad Lehew from Oakwood, Oklahoma won first place with a time of 20.78 seconds on two steers. They earned $1,312 plus trophy Gist knives. Second place went to J.R. Macoubrie and Trey Michaelis and third place was the team of Wes Mahlandt and Tyler Mahlandt. Tina Godfrey from Las Animas, Colorado and partner Mike Weir from Dodge City, Kansas came from the second call back position to win first place in the Average of the #12 Shoot-Out. They were 7.42 seconds on their final steer and ended up with a time of 35.60 seconds on four steers. The win paid them $7,552, trophy Martin saddles and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Second place was Jerry Bailey from Pauls Valley, Oklahoma and Steve Mauldin from Beggs, Oklahoma. The third place team was JR Macoubrie and Tyler Macoubrie. Curry Kirchner and Jake Cooper Clay finished in fourth place.

The #12 Gold Plus paid out $48,118 to 158 teams. It was an excellent payday for USTRC Gold Plus Ropers. Dale Martin from Alba, Texas was first and second call back in the short round with partners West Benson from Tyler, Texas and Shawn Scott from Soper, Oklahoma. Suzie Johnson from Brodhead, Wisconsin and Derrick Oberle from Downing, Wisconsin were the Incentive champions and third high team back to the short round. Before they short round they had roped themselves into $5,486, trophy Gist buckles, Classic Equine Horse Sheets, Classic Rope Bags, Classic Equine Hay Bags and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. They caught their short round steer in 8.75 seconds and took the lead of the roping with a time of 38.99 seconds on four steers. Next up was the team of Scott and Martin. They were 8.63 seconds on their last steer and took over the lead with a time of 38.13 seconds on three steers. Benson and Martin needed to be 12.49 seconds on their final steer to win the Average. They posted a time of 13.51 seconds and finished third place. The win of the roping went to Scott and Martin. They won $10,222, trophy Gist buckles, Resistol Hats, Tony Lama Boots, Cinch Jeans and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Johnson and Oberle finished in second and added $6,816 plus $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings to their winnings. Benson and Martin won $5,396 plus $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings.

The third day of the Midwest Regional Finals began with the #11 Preliminary. The team of Justin Huntington and Aaron Allen both from Nowata, Oklahoma came from the fifth call back position to win first place in the Average. They also won the Incentive Average. The team was 37.53 seconds on four steers and earned $5,866, trophy Martin saddles and $10,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings, trophy Gist buckles, plus a paid entry fee into the #11 Shoot Out. Second place was Billy Jack Hanson and David Trammell. Brody Peak from Emporia, Kansas and Tom McMillan from Stafford, Kansas finished in third place.

Bryan Beaver from Bucyrus, Kansas and Jerry Linaweaver from Linwood, Kansas won the Average of the #11 Shoot Out with a time of 39.25 seconds on four steers. They came from the fifth call back position and earned $10,000, trophy Martin saddles and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Second place was Mitch Barney from Dakota City, Nebraska and Butchie Levell III from Omaha, Nebraska. Third place in the Average went to Bruce Barnett and Ronnie Haynes. The fourth place team was Hunter Basye and Mike Weir.

Next on the agenda was the #10 Preliminary. Eric Knight from Red Oak, Oklahoma and Gunnar Stapleton from

Sublette, Kansas were second callback and caught their final steer in 8.22 seconds and finished the roping with a time of 33.34 seconds on four steers. They won $6,082, trophy Martin saddles, $8,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings, as well as a paid position into the #10 Shoot Out. Second place was Taylor Lagasse and Jeff Straight and third place went to Heidi Hazen and Ryan Binford. Hazen and Tony Schindler won the Incentive Average.

The Illinois team of Chase Adamson from Rio and Mike Adamson from New Windsor came from the third high team back position to win first place in the Average of the #10 Shoot Out. They were 39.87 seconds on four steers and won $10,000, trophy Martin saddles and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Second place went to the team of Josh Whipple and Philip Charlton with a time of 43.09 seconds on four steers. Third place was Barry Kincaid from Lamont, Oklahoma and Paul Mays from Pawhuska, Oklahoma.

The final day of the Midwest Regional Finals kicked into gear with the #9 Preliminary. Justin Huntington and Aaron Allen both from Nowata, Oklahoma came from the fifth call back position to win first place in the Average. They were 37.11 seconds on four steers and earned $7,532, trophy Martin saddles, $8,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings along with a paid advancement into the #9 Shoot Out. Second place in the roping was Donny Compton from Arcadia, Kansas and Aaron Mattox from Erie, Kansas. Third in the Average went to the team of Travis Smalts and Clay Louderback. Jeff Trost and Randy Conrad both from Collinsville, Oklahoma won first place in the Incentive Average.

The champions of the #9 Shoot-Out were Brice Sager and Billy Pillars both from Balko, Oklahoma. The team came from the second call back position and earned $10,000, trophy Martin saddles, and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Second place was Chase Adamson and Jim Lafever with a time of 42.45 seconds on four steers. Third place went to Justin Huntington and Aaron Allen as they finished the roping with a time of 44.77 seconds on four steers.

The final roping of the weekend was the #8 Pick/Draw. Tanner Jackman from Baldwin City, Kansas teamed up with Jake Anderson from White City, Kansas to win first place in the Average. They were 27.34 seconds on three steers and earned $5,430, trophy Gist buckles and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Second place goes to Jerry Eckert from Alva, Oklahoma and Joe Harris from Saint Paul, Kansas. Third place went to Emily Hogan and Tyler Stimutze.

As the curtain fell on the Midwest Regional Finals, Tina Godfrey was crowned the Cruel Girl Champion of the event and E.J. Thomas was the high point Gold Plus roper of the weekend.
